Rec Screenus is engineered with a strict privacy-first, client-side architecture:
-
Origin Private File System (OPFS): When recording begins, audio and video streams write directly into browser-managed sandboxed storage on your device. High-bitrate video chunks never travel across the web during recording.
-
No Central Video Servers: We do not operate external media servers to host, buffer, inspect, transcode, or store your recordings. Your videos remain solely on your hard drive until you decide to export or upload them.
💡
Why OPFS matters: Because recordings are saved to your local sandbox, you can record confidential work meetings, software demos, and personal screens without any risk of leaks to third-party databases.
Rec Screenus Pro offers an optional convenience feature enabling you to upload completed recordings directly into your personal Google Drive storage.
-
Direct OAuth Authorization: When enabling Google Drive, authentication is requested directly through Google's official chrome.identity OAuth2 interface.
-
Restricted File Scope (drive.file): The extension requests only the minimum permission necessary: access to create and manage files that Rec Screenus itself created. We cannot see, modify, or download existing files or folders from your Google Drive.
-
Direct Browser-to-Google Transfer: Uploads use Google Drive's resumable chunk protocol directly from your browser to googleapis.com. No intermediary server intercepts your files or access tokens.
When upgrading to Rec Screenus Pro, financial transactions and license issuance follow strict security standards:
-
Gumroad Checkout: All payments are securely conducted by Gumroad Inc., a compliant payment processor. Rec Screenus never receives, processes, or stores your credit card numbers, billing addresses, or CVV codes.
-
License Key Verification: When you enter your Pro key, the extension sends a secure verification request to Gumroad's license API (api.gumroad.com/v2/licenses/verify) solely to confirm that your purchase is active.
-
Local Key Persistence: Your active Pro license status is stored in chrome.storage.sync so that Pro features remain accessible across your logged-in Chrome profiles.
We maintain a zero-tracking guarantee:
-
We do not track, collect, log, or sell your web browsing history, URL visits, or search queries.
-
We do not inject third-party ad networks, tracking pixels, or intrusive analytics SDKs into the extension or landing pages.
-
We will never sell, lease, or monetize user data under any circumstances.
The Chrome Web Store manifest declares only permissions strictly required to perform video capture:
-
desktopCapture: Triggers Chrome's native screen selector prompt so you can choose which display, window, or tab to record.
-
offscreen: Creates an isolated background document to handle hardware-accelerated MediaRecorder encoding without lagging your active browser tab.
-
storage: Stores user recording preferences (resolution, framerate, microphone state) and your Pro license status locally.
-
identity: Authenticates directly with Google OAuth2 when you choose to connect your Google Drive account.
-
downloads: Allows 1-click export of your recorded WebM files directly to your operating system's Downloads folder.
We may periodically revise this Privacy Policy to reflect software improvements, new feature releases, or changes in applicable data protection laws. Any revisions will immediately be reflected on this page with an updated revision date.
Your continued use of Rec Screenus following the posting of modifications indicates your acknowledgement of the updated terms.
